Main content:

A bitmapped map. The map contains mean annual precipitation amount's standard deviation

Classifier's precision:

The precision of mean annual and monthly precipitation amount's standard deviation is to a tenth of a unit of measurement.

Map's compilation procedure:

Mean annual and monthly precipitation amount's standard deviation in the nodes of the regular grid with a spacing of 1 degree has been calculated on the basis of the information from the database of mean monthly precipitation values for the period from 1961 to 1990. The values of mean annual precipitation in this database are distributed among the nodes of the regular grid with the spacing of 2.5 degrees. Therefore the values of the mean annual and monthly precipitation amount's standard deviation were initially calculated for the nodes of the regular grid with the spacing of 2.5 degrees and afterwards they were interpolated by way of optimal interpolation into the regular grid with the spacing of 1 degree. The database of mean annual precipitation values has been found in the database created at NOAA NCEP by Dr. Aiguo Dai. This database contains verified data from basic stations of NOAA NCEP for the period from 1850 to 1995. This information was obtained via the Internet from the FTP-server ftp.ncep.noaa.gov/pub/precip/cmap/monthly
