Basic contents:

Vector map consisting of 2 thematic layers, where area and zone of severity are shown by polygons.

Accuracy of qualifier:

In the disease area the zone of high severity (more than 25% of gourd plants are affected by the Powdery Mildew) is outlined. The zone is marked according to method by A.E.Chumakov & T.I.Zakharova (1990).

Procedure of map drawing:

The zone of disease severity is shown on a blank map on the base of published references. In hothouses the disease is most nocuous in the Central areas of Russia (Ivanovo, Vladimir, Bryansk, Kaluga, Kalinin Regions), in Siberia (Irkutsk, Kemerovo, Chelyabinsk Regions), the Far East (Primorskii Territory and Sakhalin Region) where 93-100% of plants were affected, and the disease development reached 54-75% (Osnitskaya, 1968; 1969; 1870; 1971; Plekhanova, 1981). In open ground the disease is most nocuous in the Volga Basin region (Samara, Saratov, Nizhnii Novgorod, Volgograd Regions) (Dikanev, 1970); Northern Caucasus (Krasnodar and Stavropol Territories, Chechnya, Ingushetia, Alania, Kabardino-Balkariya, Kalmykia) (Osnitskaya, 1971); Transcaucasia (Armenia, Georgia, Azerbaijan) (Kostanyan, 1973; Tabatadze, 1978; Ragimov, 1957); Moldova (Rudenko, 1967); in forest-steppe zone of Ukraine (Zakarpatska, Lviv, Volynska, Rivne, Ternopil, Chernivtsy, Vinnytsya, Khmelnytskyy, Zhytomyr, Kyiv, and other Regions) (Pluzhnikova, 1985) and in Central Asia (Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan) (Chechuev, 1991; Mukhamedov, 1971), where yield losses reached 40-100%.
