Basic contents:

Vector map. Consists of polygons characterizing the distribution of the species and area of disease severity on maize.

Accuracy of classifier:

The distribution of Nigrospora Ear Rot on maize is based on the compilation of open published materials (Vinogradova, 1960); (Borovskaya, 1989); (Kirimilashvili, 1969); (Kulik, 1956); (Nikolaeva, 1979); (Sibiryak, 1961), (Susidko, 1975). Areas of disease occurrence are according to the following sources: (Kulik, 1956); (Suisidko et al., 1975). Disease severity is determined by the percent of infected grains in cobs and ranges from (Voronezh, 1976): weak (less than 5%), moderate (5 . less 20%), and high (more than 20%). In forest-steppe zone of Ukraine (Kulik, 1956), disease severity is classified as weak (yields decreased to 9%); moderate (yields decreased 10-25%) and high (26-28%). Overall distribution of disease was based on maize growing regions.

Method of map production:

Published literature was reviewed, including Atlases, monographs and papers. Data were then compiled through scanning and geo-referencing to develop a composite vector map. The biologist, together with the GIS specialist, drew a composite disease distribution area based on compiled data.
