Date of creation:

20.12.2003.

Scale:

1:20 000 000.

Accuracy of map:

Map was created based on materials of maps with scale 1:40 000 000, information taken from literature and according to the analysis of the collections of the Zoological Institute of the Russian Academy of Sciences.

Projection:

.Alber.s Equal Conica for the USSR., 9, 1001, 7, 100, 0, 44, 68, 0, 0.

Basic contents:

Vector map. Area of species distribution is shown by polygons. Zones of pest damage are shown by polygons.

Accuracy of classifier:

Within area of distribution two zones of pest damage (moderate and weak) are established according to the extent of damage to the agricultural plants. In zones of moderate pest damage, about 50-70% of the buds are periodically injured by the Apple Blossom Weevil. In zones of weak pest damage there is a noticeably less number of buds injured which does not cause a decrease in yield.

Method of map production:

Scientists were given maps with boundaries of Oblasts and arable lands. After reviewing historic literature, species distribution was hand drawn on maps. If data were on the Oblast-level, distribution is on the Oblast level. In some cases, Oblast.s are further refined by boundaries of the Arable Land Map (Koroljeva et al., 2003). Hand drawn maps were scanned, georeferenced and vectorized. Sources used included: Bobrinskii et al., 1969) Egorov (1979), Zemlina (1962), Dieckmann (1968). Probably, records of A. pomorum from West Siberia are misidentifications. The borders of the differenct pest damage zones were determined according to: Dobrovol'skii (1959) and Zemlina (1962). The zone of moderate pest damage comprises North-West and West of the European part of the former USSR, Central Chernozem Region of Russia except southern districts, Upper Volga River Basin, mountain districts of the Crimea and North Caucasus, and Primorskii Territory. The zone of weak pest damage comprises forest-steppe and steppe territory of the former USSR, where the buds development and blossoming stage lasts for a short time.
