Date of creation:

19.04.2006.

Scale:

1:20 000 000

Accuracy of map:

It is created on information taken from the open published literature and maps of scale 1: 17 000 000 and 1:33 000 000.

Projection:

"Alber's Equal Area Conic for the USSR", 9, 1001, 7, 100, 0, 44, 68, 0, 0.

Basic content:

Vector map consisting of 2 layers. Area and zone of damage are shown by polygons.

Accuracy of the classifier:

Zone of low damage only is allocated within the limits of general area. Here the pest has economic significance during development before maturing of fruits of apple and mountain ash, exceeding the usual economic threshold of harmfulness for other fruit-damaging Lepidoptera of stone-fruit cultures; the threshold is causing 2-5% damaged fruits (Kalinkin et al., 2003). In some years harm level reaches 70-90% damaged fruits locally in the zone of low damage (Chugunin, 1935; Belosel.skaya, 1963).

Method of map production:

The map is compiled by results of the analysis of the open published materials. The Apple Fruit Miner area is outlined according to original and reference data on the species distribution (Chugunin, 1935; Krishtal., 1959; Belosel.skaya, 1963; Charushina & SHernin, 1974; Gershenzon, 1974a, 1974b, 1981; Vasil.ev & Livshits, 1984; Polyakov et al., 1984; Sinev, 1994; Kullberg et al., 2001; Ovsyannikova, 2003; etc.). Northern border of the area is extrapolated along average annual isotherm 0°C (Sinev, 1994) in view of actual records in the European part (see above-mentioned sources), Siberia (Altai territory, Omsk, Tomsk, Chelyabinsk, Irkutsk Regions, the south of Krasnoyarsk Territory) after Kolmakova (1962), Babenko (1982), Prokof.ev (1987), in the Far East (Primorskii and Khabarovsk Territories) after Gibanov et al. (1977), Sytenko (1960), Shtundyuk & Ablakatov (1969); etc. In the Caucasus, the pest is known after data of Avetyan, 1952; Mirzoyan & Grigoryan, 1990; Batiashvili, 1965; etc. The area is corrected here along forest and forest-steppe zones according to the map of vegetation in the USSR (Chikov, 1983). Within the limits of Central Asia the Fruit Miner is found only from environs of Almaty in Kazakhstan (D'yakonov, Kozhanchikov, 1949; Belosel.skaya, 1952). The zone of low damage coincides with the areas of industrial cultivation of fruit crops (Polyakov et al., 1984; Vasil.ev and Livshits, 1984), which are determined after Terekhina (2005). The species records on its harming activity in a steppe zone are not found. Therefore, this zone is excluded from the area of low damage according to the map of vegetation in the USSR (Chikov, 1983). Registration and vectorization of raster map are executed by means of GIS-technologies.
