Date of creation:

16.09.2007.

Scale:

1:20 000 000.

Accuracy of the map:

It is based on materials of the map with scale 1:33 000 000, using the information taken from literature.

Projection:

"Alber's Equal Conica for the USSR", 9, 1001, 7, 100, 0, 44, 68, 0, 0.

Basic content:

Vector map, which consists of three thematic layers. Area of distribution and zones of damage are shown by polygons.

Accuracy of the classifier:

Threshold of harmfulness of the Pear Sawfly is 1 larva per 10 host tree leaves (Goderdzishvili, 1974). Zones of low (1 to 5 larvae per 10 leaves; 10-40% damaged leaves of fruit crops) and high damage are distinguished within the pest area due to the expert appraisal of the data of the past years. High harmfulness of the sawfly is possible only in years of its outbreaks that seldom occur (with periodicity of 4 to 22 years). In the zone of high damage in the years of sawfly outbreaks (5 to 30 and more larvae per 10 leaves) the heavy damage of leaves (50 to 95%) and infestation of trees by 70 to 100% were recorded when no control measures were applied.

Method for map production:

To define general distribution of the species and harmfulness zones, analysis of materials in the following publications was performed: Vasil.ev (1955), Minyaeva (1955), Arakelyan (1958), Batiashvili (1959), Daduryan (1962),Mirzoyan(1973), Pospelov et al. (1973), Chkhubianishvili & Goderdzishvili (1973), Mishnev (1974), Savkovskii (1976), Balaev (1981), Tryapitsyn & Zhelokhovtsev (1981), Vasil.ev & Livshits (1984), Polyakov et al. (1984), Zhelokhovtsev (1988) et al. On the territory of the Former USSR the species is found in forest, forest-steppe and steppe zones of European part, in the Caucasus, Volga Region, in Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Turkmenia, Kirgizia, Tadjikistan, Siberia excluding deserts, semi-deserts and highlands more than 2100 m above sea level. North border of area is determined by the minimal winter temperature (above -25°C), that approximately corresponds to the line extending from Estonia through Pskov Region, then through towns of Tver, Kirov, Berezniki, Novosibirsk. On the Far East (Primorie, South of Amur Region and Khabarovsk Territory, Sakhalin) the pest area is indicated according to Zhelokhovtsev & Zinov.ev (1996) within the deciduous forest area (Chikov, 1976). Zone of the high damage on the territory of the Former USSR includes Lithuania (Zayanchkauskas, 1958), Latvia (Tsinovskii, 1953), Belarus (Onufreichik, 1969,1975; Pankevich, 1967,1979), Ukraine (Dyadechko, 1957), Crimea, Moldavia (Vasil.ev, 1955), Krasnodar and Stavropol Territories, Rostov Region (Dobrovol.skii, 1959), Georgia (Chkhubianishvili & Goderdzishvili, 1973), Azerbaijan (Balaev, 1981). Zone of low damage includes territory of fruit crop cultivation between regions of high damage zone up to Ural, then partly Tyumen, Omsk, Novosibirsk Regions, Kazakhstan and Kirgizia. The boundaries of the damage zones are given according to the following works: Vasil.ev (1955), Goderdzishvili (1968), Onufreichik (1975), Pankevich (1967), Sateev (1977), Makarova (1967), Minyaeva (1960), Mishnev (1974), Mitlyuchenko (1951) et al. The pest damage zones are corrected according to the map of fruit gardens distribution (Tochenov, 1984).
