Scale:

1:20 000 000.

Accuracy of map:

Map was created based on materials of map of natural scale 1:33 000 000.

Projection:

"Alber's Equal Area Conic of Russia", 9, 1001, 7, 100, 0, 44, 68, 0, 0.

Basic contents:

Vector map. Area of species distribution is shown by polygons. Zones of recorded mass outbreak are shown by polygons.

Accuracy of classifier:

The insect area was divided into zones of high and low damage according to the published materials: Alkhazishvili T. (1954), Kuznetsova & Molodkina (1969), Kuznetsova (1970). The zone of high damage includes regions that are characterized by periodic damage to 35% or more of plants; the zone of low damage is characterized by damage to 35% or less of plants.

Method of map production:

The area and damage zones of C. pumilionis were marked on a blank map according to an analysis of published materials. The materials of VIZR expeditions were also used. The borders of harmfulness zones were determined according to criteria that have been published by the following sources: Ovchinnikova (1927), Karpova (1936), Dubrovskaya (1960), Alkhazishvili (1960). The northern border was determined according to Ovchinnikova (1927), Sinitsina (1958, 1960), data from expeditions and also from data taken from suction traps, yellow sticky traps, and caps of Moerike. The results of the analysis of host spreading were used according to the atlas of the USSR vegetation (cereal cultures), taking into account the temperature preference of this insect (the insects are moderately cold-resistant). The vector map of the distribution of cereals within the territory of the Former Soviet Union was also used to define damage zones (Koroljeva et al., 2003).
