Date of creation:

01.12.2006.

Scale:

1:20 000 000.

Accuracy of map:

It is created on information taken from the open published literature and maps of scale 90-130 000 000, 20-52 000 000 and 3-4 000 000.

Projection:

"Alber's Equal Area Conic for the USSR", 9, 1001, 7, 100, 0, 44, 68, 0, 0.

Basic content:

Vector map consisting of 2 layers. The distribution area and zone of damage are shown by polygons.

Accuracy of the classifier:

Those parts of the pest damage zone have been marked with contour lines where the Forest Dormouse population density remains sufficient for local damage in orchards, exceeding the threshold of economic losses equaling 3%.

Method of map production:

The map from Grzimek.s Animal Life Encyclopedia (2003) is rather schematical, reflecting the Forest Dormouse distribution in quite general features. The distribution area is executed according to maps of Flint (1970), Bobrinskii et al. (1965), Pavlinov et al. (2002), with detailed elaboration after dot maps of Likhachev (1973) for the European part of the former USSR, Lozan (1970) for Moldova, Airapetyants (1983) for all area and Davydov (1984) for Tajikistan. The data from other research works (Gazaryan, 1985; Davydov, 1988; Airapetyants & Fokin, 2000-2003; Juskaitis, 1995) are also considered. The zone of low pest damage is shown in some places only, within the limits of the area, in Moldova, Transcaucasia, and in the south of the Central Asian states. Specification of the configuration of this zone borders is executed on the map of fruit crops distribution according to Tochenov (1984) and on the vector map of the Apple tree domestic area (Terekhina & Kalibernova, 2004).
