Authors:

Specialist on object - A.N. Frolov, GIS-specialist - M.I. Saulich.

Date of creation:

25.08.2004.

Scale:

1:20 000 000.

Accuracy of map:

Map was created based on information taken from published literature and map of scale 1:33 000 000 and 1:35 000 000.

Projection:

"Alber's Equal Area Conic for the USSR", 9, 1001, 7, 100, 0, 44, 68, 0, 0.

Basic content:

Vector map consisting of 3 layers reflecting distribution and 2 zones of damage shown by polygons.

Accuracy of the classifier:

Within the area of distribution we selected a zone of moderate pest damage (south of Ukraine, North Caucasus, lower Volga, south of Moldavia), where average crop losses of grain legumes can reach 5-6% (Shchegolev et al., 1934; Dobrovol'skii, 1959; Rafal'skii, 1965; and others). Zone of low harm (where crop losses are less than 5%, as a rule) covers the European territories with grain legume growing, and the Asian territories with soybean growing, where average July temperature does decrease below 20°C (Viktorov, 1956).

Procedure of map drawing:

The distribution area of the Limabean Pod Borer was compiled on the basis of published material (Shchegolev et al., 1934; Arnol'di et al., 1949; Belyaev et al., 1988; Kuznetsov, 1999). Zones of damage were determined according to materials listed below (Shchegolev et al., 1934; Dobrovol.skii, 1959; Rafal'skii, 1965, etc.). Zone of distribution was specified, using map of vegetation (Barysheva et al., 1992), and the zone of damage was specified according to use of arable lands vector layer according to I.E. Koroleva et al. (2003). The blank maps with images of distribution area and pest damage zones were scanned. Its registration and vectoring were fulfilled using standard tools of GIS-technologies.
