Accuracy of the map:

Map was created based on a map with scale 1:33 000 000 and on information taken from literature.

Projection:

Basic contents:

Vector map. Area of species distribution is shown by polygons. Zones of recorded mass outbreak are shown by polygons.

Accuracy of classifier:

Within the area of distribution only a zone of low damage was established according to the extent of damage to fruit crops. The threshold of harmfulness of Hoplocampa testudinea on apple is 10 females per 1 tree (pests counted by method of shaking down) before bud blossoming or 3-5 eggs per 100 flowers. In the zone of low damage the density of H. testidinea only sometimes exceeds the threshold of harmfulness (Kopaneva et al., 1984).

Method of map production:

Scientists were given maps with boundaries of Oblasts and arable lands. Hand drawn maps were scanned, georeferenced and vectorized. The map of the area was based on the following publications: Batiashvili (1959), Mirzoyan (1970), Gainanova (1972), Vasil'ev (1973), Zhelokhovtsev (1988), Zhelokhovtsev & Zinovjev (1995). In the former USSR the area includes the Baltic States, Byelorussia, Ukraine, Moldova, the European part of Russia northward to Leningrad Region, eastward to the Ural and Caucasus. The borders of the damage zone were determined according to: Gusev et al. (1962), Mirzoyan (1970), Gainanova (1972), Vasil'ev (1973), Tryapitsyn & Zhelokhovtsev (1981), Kopaneva et al. (1984). In the former USSR the zone of low damage is comprised of the territory of apple within the area of H. testudinea, also corrected according to the areas of industrial cultivation of apple and fruit crops according to Terekhina (2005), Koroleva et al. (2003).
