Scale:

1:20.000.000.

Accuracy of map:

Created using maps of natural scale 1:25 000 000 and other information found in the literature.

Projection:

"Alber's Equal Area Conic", 9, 1001, 7, 100, 0, 44, 68, 0, 0.

Basic contents:

Vector map composed from 4 thematic layers. Zones of distribution and harmfulness are shown by polygons.

Accuracy of the classifier:

Insect area is divided into zones of severe mass reproduction and damage, sporadic reproduction and damage, and insignificant reproduction and damage. Zone of low reproduction and damage refers to 2 specimens per square mile, moderate reproduction and damage refers to 2/4 specimens per square mile and high reproduction and damage refers to >5 specimens per square mile. Zones of distribution and damage were defined by an analysis of published cartographical material. Zaslavskij's (1961) map is used as a base map for Hypera postica Gyll. Borders of harmfulness zones are based on Yakhontov's (1934) monograph.

Method of map production:

Scientists were given maps with boundaries of Oblasts and arable lands. After reviewing historic literature, species distribution was hand drawn on maps. If data were on the Oblast-level, distribution is on the Oblast level. In some cases, Oblast's are further refined by boundaries of the Arable Land Map. Hand drawn maps were scanned, georeferenced and vectorized.
