Date of creation:

6.03.2007.

Scale:

1:20 000 000.

Accuracy of map:

It is created on materials of map of natural scale 1:33 000 000.

Projection:

"Alber's Equal Area Conic", 9, 1001, 7, 100, 0, 44, 68, 0, 0.

Basic contents:

Vector map is composed of 3 thematic layers. Zones of distribution and damage are shown by polygons.

Accuracy of the classifier:

The insect area is divided into zones of high and low damage after the published materials (Polyakov, 1989, 1990; Vlasenko, 1991; et al.). The zone of low damage includes regions that are characterized by average population density; i.e., 2 to 6 beetles per 1 plant at 25% or more colonized plants; the population density in the zone of high damage is more than 6 insects per 1 plant at 50% or more colonized plants.

Method of map production:

The area and damage zones of M. aeneus have been marked on a blank map by results of the analysis of the published materials. The northern border has been marked after the published materials (Bogdanov-Kat'kov, 1920; Kireichuk, 1979; et al.); the analysis of host spreading (wild crucifers) has been used according to the Computer Agroatlas, taking into account strong cold resistance in winter of this insect. Within the territory of the Former Soviet Union, the species occurs widely, except for the Far North. The area of M. aeneus coincides with the area of Phaedon cochleariae F., but the last species is also found in Primorskii Territory. The borders of damage zones are given, using criteria that have been published by I.Ya.Polyakov (1989, 1990); N.G.Vlasenko (1997); etc. The northern border of damage zone has been marked along northern border of main area of rape (Terekhina, 2004). This zone includes northwestern and central regions of the European part of Russia, Ukraine, Byelorussia, Baltic States, Moldova, the Caucasus, Kazakhstan, Amur Basin region. High damage is observed in some regions of Central Russia, in Ural, West Siberia, southern regions of Byelorussia, forest and forest-steppe part of Ukraine. Southern border of this zone coincides with the northern border of steppe zone. The vector map of distribution of rape within the territory of the Former Soviet Union have been also used for the correction of damage zones (Terekhina, 2004), as well as the map of arable lands (Koroleva et al., 2003).
