Scale:

1:20 000 000.

Accuracy of map:

It is created on information taken from the open published literature and maps of scale 1:35-40 000 000, 1:85 000 000.

Projection:

"Alber's Equal Area Conic for the USSR", 9, 1001, 7, 100, 0, 44, 68, 0, 0.

Basic content:

Vector map consisting of 2 layers. Area and zone of damage are shown by polygons.

Accuracy of the classifier:

It has been previously reported (Polyakov, 1968) that the Siberian Zokor does strong damage in the limits of its area. The zone of low damage has been outlined for the territory where this rodent species can locally cause losses higher than 5% (threshold of economic harmfulness), especially on alfalfa fields and in vegetable gardens.

Method of map production:

Descriptions of the Siberian Zokor distribution in reviews of Sludskii et al. (1978), Puzachenko (2005), and some maps (Bobrinskii et al., 1965; Flint, 1970; Pavlinov et al., 2002) have been used. The species area is located within the limits of Tomsk and Novosibirsk Regions, Altai Territory, and the Republic of Gornyi Altai in Russia; in Shygys Qazaqstan Province of Kazakhstan (former Semipalatinsk and Ust-Kamenogorsk Regions). There were 3 isolated plots in the northern part of the area in recent time. In Tomsk Region, the Zokor colonies have remained in the Shegarka and Chaya river valleys in the limits of Kozhevnikovo and Shegarskoe Districts. The localities of this species dwelling on the Ob left river bank in Novosibirsk Region are limited by Kolyvan., Ordynskoe, and Kochenevskii Districts (Mugako, 2007). The third small territory is in Pankrushinsk and Pavlovsk districts in the North of the Altai Territory near the border of Novosibirsk region. At Altai, this species is distributed in foothills and low mountains but not inhabiting Northeastern and Southeastern Altai. The western border of its area in Altai Territory passes from the mouth of Alei and Charysh rivers toward Kolyvansky Mountain Ridge; in Shygys Qazaqstan Province of Kazakhstan it goes down to Irtysh River and then turns southeastward to Altai. In the Republic of Gornyi Altai (Russia) and in Shygys Qazaqstan Province, the Siberian Zokor inhabits mountain ridges and adjacent steppe territories. In Altai, the eastern border goes along the Katun River left bank. This species does not live in Zaisan Depression, Saur Mountain Ridge, and Alakul. Valley. The southern part of area includes Targabatai and Chingis-tau Mountains (Sludskii et al., 1978; Puzachenko, 2005). A low pest damage mainly takes place in the South of Altai Territory, West of the Gornyi Altai Republic and in the limits of Shygys Qazaqstan Province.
