Scale:

1:20 000 000.

Accuracy of map:

It is created on materials of map of natural scale 1:33 000 000.

Projection:

"Alber's Equal Area Conic", 9, 1001, 7, 100, 0, 44, 68, 0, 0.

Basic contents:

Vector map is composed of 3 thematic layers. Zones of distribution and damage are shown by polygons.

Accuracy of the classifier:

The insect area is divided into two zones of pest damage. The zone of low damage includes regions that are characterized by periodical number of black cherry aphid on cherry trees according to points 1-2; the zone of high damage is characterized by insect number according to points 3 and above (Drakhovskaya, 1962).

Method of map production:

The area and damage zones of the Black Cherry Aphid have been marked on a blank map by results of the analysis of the published materials. The northern border of the area coinciding with the northern border of cherry tree growing zone is drawn according to literature data (Shaposhnikov, 1964; Vasil'ev, 1973; Ivanovskaya, 1976). The species is marked in West Siberia, where it is rare in forest zone, but common in steppe zone (Ivanovskaya, 1976). This aphid also occurs in the Primorskii Territory (Ivanovskaya, Kupyanskaya, 1979). The high mountains of the Caucasus are excluded from the area. The Black Cherry Aphid low damage is reported in the forest-steppe zone of Ukraine, and also in a number of regions in the Russian European part according to V.P.Nevskii (1929), V.V.Vereshchagina (1966), A.T.Abashidze, D.K.Gvishiani (1973), O.I.Ivanovskaya (1976), R.P.Rakauskas (1984), and others. The pest high damage is marked in the steppe zone of Ukraine, in Lower Volga Basin region, Moldova, Middle Asia, Kazakhstan (mainly in southern regions), North Caucasus, Transcaucasia. The vector map of Common cherry distribution in the former USSR territory (Terekhina, 2005) has been used for correction of the damage zones.
