Date of creation:

21.04.2007.

Scale:

1:20 000 000.

Accuracy of map:

It is created on information taken from the open published literature and maps of scale 1: 33 000 000.

Projection:

"Alber's Equal Area Conic for the USSR", 9, 1001, 7, 100, 0, 44, 68, 0, 0.

Basic content:

Vector map consisting of 3 layers. Area and zone of damage are shown by polygons.

Accuracy of the classifier:

Two zones of damage are allocated within the limits of general area. In the zone of moderate damage, the pest population density exceeds economic threshold (10 or more eggs and larvae per 1 plant); in the zone of low damage, the pest population density does not reach the economic threshold (Zolin, 1975). In some years, 90% or more beet plants are damaged, causing reduction of root yield by 22-27%, of beet tops yield by 21-22%, of saccharinity by 0.9-1.1% (Turishcheva & Shukanov, 1975).

Method of map production:

The map is compiled by results of the analysis of the open published materials and maps. Available Russian applied literature does not allow separating areas of P. hyosciami and P. betae. Therefore, joint area of the two species is outlined. Maps compiled by V.F. Saiko (1976; figs. 1 and 2) are taken as prototypes, being corrected according with reference citations. In the north of the European part, the area reaches the Murmansk Region, includes also Ukraine, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Central Chernozem Region, the Caucasus, Transcaucasia, Middle Asia, Siberia, and the Far East (see reference data). Deserts and high mountains of Central Asia and Kazakhstan are excluded from the area. The zone of moderate damage is determined within the limits of western forest-steppe of Ukraine after the data of Saiko (1976) and Rogochaya (1974). The zone of low damage covers the other areas of industrial beet-growing (maps of Rukhovich, 2003; Terekhina, 2004).
