Date of creation:

15.03.2006.

Scale:

1:20 000 000.

Accuracy of the map:

It is created on materials of the map with scale 1:33 000 000 on the basis of information taken from literature and by the analysis of the collections of the Zoological Institute, Russian Academy of Sciences.

Projection:

.Alber.s Equal Conica for the USSR., 9, 1001, 7, 100, 0, 44, 68, 0, 0.

Basic content:

Vector map, which consists of 2 thematic layers. Area of distribution and zone of damage are shown by polygons.

Accuracy of the classifier:

Within the area of distribution, the zone of low damage is established according to the extent of damage to alfalfa. In the zone of low damage, harmfulness of S. cylindricollis is about 1 score point under the 5 score-points of harmfulness scale (Kopaneva et al., 1983). Threshold of harmfulness on the alfalfa crops in phase of sprouts and re-growth is 5-10 adults per sq. m.

Method of map production:

Data from the publications are used for allocation of area and zone of pest damage. A map of the area is based also on the analysis of the collection of the Zoological Institute. The localities of the species are marked preliminarily in coordinate system on blank geographical map by standard means of GIS-technologies. It inhabits the European part of the former USSR northward to Leningrad Region (Ioannisiani, 1972; Dmitrieva, 2005), whole Caucasus (Arzanov, 1989; Ismailova, 1993), steppe and forest-steppe zones in the South of Western and Eastern Siberia (Egorov, Zherikhin & Korotyaev, 1996; Legalov & Opanasenko, 2000), Middle Asia, Kazakhstan (Alimdzhanov, 1951; Baitenov, 1974; 1975), and Primorskii Territory (Egorov, 1979). The zone of low damage comprises territory of the alfalfa-growing in republics of Middle Asia. Borders of the zone of harmfulness are given after publications of Pavlovskii & Shtakelberg (1949), Alimdzhanov (1951), Petrukha (1969), Ioannisiani (1972), Kopaneva et al. (1983).
