Taxonomic position.

Family Poaceae Benth. genus Agropyron Gaertn.

Morphology and biology.

Perennial grass. Rhizomatous plant. Stems 25.50 (80) cm tall, geniculate at the base, pubescent under spike. Leaves convolute, 2-4 mm wide, glabrous beneath, shortly pubescent or long-hairy above; ligule up to 1 mm long. Spikes linear, pectinate, with divaricate and closely approximate spikelets, 4-7 cm long, 8-12 mm wide. Spikelets 7-9 mm long, (3)4-5-flowered; glumes lanceolate-subulate, with an awn 1-2 mm long, glabrous or hairy; lemma (5) 6-7 mm long, acumanate into awn 1-2,5 mm long, less often obtusate, more or less hairy. Flowers in June. Anemophilous. 2n=?

Distribution.

Endemic. Coast of Azov Sea.

Ecology.

Seaside sodded and blown sands and sandy-shelly bars.

Use and economic value.

Forage grass.
