Author:

V.G. Funtova.

Data of creation:

28.10.2003.

Scale:

1:20.000.000.

Exactness of the map:

The map was created using maps that had the following scale: 1:50.000.000, 1:30.000.000, 1:10.000.000, 1:5.000.000

Projection:

Alber's Equal Area Conic for Russia.

Basic contents:

Map is a vector file consisting of polygons and points. Locations of species are represented by points, area of possible distribution of species are represented by polygons.

Accuracy of classifier:

Light-colored points are locations referenced in literature sources. Polygons are based on literature sources, political boundaries and ecological description.

Method of map production:

Published literature was reviewed, including Atlases, monographs and papers. Occurrence data were obtained from herbarium specimens, floras, monographs and papers. Distribution points were determined according to the following sources: Fedorov, (1974); Malyshev & Peshkova, (1979); Harkevich, (1982, 1991); (Hulten & Fries, 1986). Polygon areas were made using data about the distribution of the species in floristic regions from the following literature sources: Fedorov, (1974); Tzvelev, (1976); Pavlov, (1956); Hulten & Fries, (1986). Map boundaries were determined as follows: For the West and Southwest border Tzvelev, (1976); South and Southeastern borders are defined by the state border of Russia, and the north border by Malyshev & Peshkova, (1990). Final area also takes into account ecology data from .Description files.. Data were then compiled through scanning and geo-referencing to develop a composite vector map. The biologist, together with the GIS specialist, drew a new plant distribution area based on compiled data.
