Morphology and biology.

Perennial cereal. The plant forms short rhizomes. Stalks of height of 50-120 cm. Leaves flat, hardish, 5-11 mm of width. Panicle 20-30 cm of the length, hanging; in the bottom node of panicle long branchlet with numerous spikelets, and the short one with 4-8 spikelets. Spikelets 8-12 mm of length, with 4-6 flowers. The bottom floral scale lanceolate, 6-9 mm of length, on a top integral or two-gear, without awns or with awn up to 0,5 mm of length. Blossoms in June - July. Anemophilous. 2n=42.

Distribution.

Baltic, Ladoga-Ilmen floristic area.

Ecology.

On meadows, it is usual along sea coast.

Use and economic value.

Fodder plant; amenital plant.
