Scale:

1:20 000 000.

Accuracy of a map:

Map is based on data from herbarium specimens and on maps having the following scale: 1:25 000 000-1:50 000 000.

Basic contents:

Map is a vector file consisting of polygons and points. Points represent locations of species; areas of possible distribution of species are represented by polygons.

Accuracy of classifier:

Point data were obtained from literature sources and herbarium specimens. Distribution data were determined according to a database of site coordinates developed by the N.I. Vavilov Institute (1992) and from published maps (Kubli, 1977). Polygons are based on literature sources, herbarium samples, and field surveys by the authors.

Method of map production:

Published literature was reviewed, including Atlases, monographs and papers. Occurrence data were obtained from herbarium specimens, floras, monographs and papers. Map boundaries were determined as follows: For the Caucasus (Kubli, 1977); For the Central Asian parts of the area (Kubli, 1977); and also supplemented with herbarium materials (Komarov Botanical institute); (N.I. Vavilov Institute). Data were then compiled through scanning and geo-referencing to develop a composite vector map. The biologist together with the GIS specialist, drew a new plant distribution area based on compiled data.
