Date of creation:

Scale:

1:20 000 000.

Accuracy of the map:

The map is based on data of 1:20 000 000, 1:25 000 000 scale maps, corrected according to herbarium materials.

Projection:

"Albers Equal-Area Conic Projection for USSR", 9, 1001, 7, 100, 0, 44, 68, 0, 0

Basic contents:

The map is a vector file consisting of polygons and dots. Localities of the species are represented by dots, the area of species distribution is represented by the polygons.

Accuracy of the qualifier:

Dark dots represent information on the species localities from herbarium collections of LE, the rest (light) dots represent data from published sources.

Method of the map construction:

We treat the taxonomic content of the species in the volume as accepted by Cherepanov (1995); i.e. excluding L. angustissimus L. var. proetermissus (Kuprian.) Wissjul., the latter being accepted as a separate species L. proetermissus Kuprian., with its own geographical range, limited by steppe habitats instead of mountain ones. We accept the view of Minjaev and Ulle (1987) on the distribution of L. angustissimus L. in the former USSR and consider its range consisting of two polygons, Crimean and Caucasian. In Crimea, the species is distributed in the southern, mountain part of the peninsula, in the Caucasus it is distributed in Transcaucasia. The Crimean polygon is based on analyzed material of published data (Dobrochaeva et al., 1987; Minjaev, Ulle, 1987; Shishkin, 1945). The Caucasian polygon is based on analyzed factual material on the species distribution in the area in question (LE Herbarium), published maps (Grossheim, 1952) and published data (Shishkin, 1945). Dots outside the polygon outline represent single localities of the species beyond the borders of the final polygons.
