Date of creation:

10.05.2007

Scale:

1:20 000 000.

Accuracy of the map:

The map is based on data of herbarium specimens and 1:13 000 000 - 1:50 000 000 scale maps.

Projection:

"Albers Equal-Area Conic Projection for USSR", 9, 1001, 7, 100, 0, 44, 68, 0, 0

Basic contents:

The map is a vector file consisting of polygons and dots. The localities of the species are represented by the dots; the area of possible species distribution is represented by the polygons.

Accuracy of the qualifier:

The dots represent information on the species localities according to published sources and herbarium specimens. The polygons are based on generalized information from published sources and herbarium specimens.

Method of the map construction:

The data on the species distribution were obtained from the database of the species localities coordinates included in the Information Retrieval System "Crop Wild Relatives in Russia" (STC Informregistr 0229905883, 1999) and from published maps by Vasilyev and Svjaseva in "Ranges of trees and shrubs of the USSR" (Sokolov et al., 1980), G.V.Budanova in "Atlas of medicinal plant ranges..." (Tolmachev, 1983), Koropachinskiy and Vstovskaya (2002), published data by Schmidt (2005), and from Internet site http://www.ipgri.cgiar.org .
The species has a disjunctive range. The northern and eastern borders of the main part of the range are drawn after Vasilyev and Svjaseva (Sokolov et al., 1980) and corrected after Schmidt (2005) and according to LE herbarium materials referred to in the database of the Information Retrieval System. The southern and southeastern borders of the main part of the range are drawn after Vasilyev and Svjaseva (Sokolov et al., 1980), and Budanova (Tolmachev, 1983), and corrected according to LE herbarium materials. The range border in the Crimea is constructed after Vasilyev and Svjaseva (Sokolov et al., 1980), and Budanova (Tolmachev, 1983); in the Caucasus after Vasilyev and Svjaseva (Sokolov et al., 1980), and Grossheim (1962), both corrected according to LE herbarium materials.
Some of the data on the species distribution in West Siberia, mentioned by Koropachinskiy and Vstovskaya (2002), are not included in the final polygon since these authors treat the species T. cordata Mill. in a broad sense. The localities cited by them belong to T. sibirica Bayer, which, in our opinion, is a separate species.
