Taxonomic position.

Family Fabaceae Lindl., genus Trifolium L.

Synonyms.

Trifolium tenuiflorum Ten., Trifolium incanum C.Presl.

Morphology and biology.

Annual herbaceous plant with soft pubescence. Stems 30-60 cm tall, ribbed, branched almost from base. Stipules acutely subulate in their free part. Leaflets oblong-oboval. Inflorescences dense oval heads, elongating at fruits. Corolla pink, calyx slightly inflated at fruits. Calyx teeth subulately sharpened, longer than corolla. Fruit a scarious 1-seeded pod. Flowers in May, fruits in June. Autogamous plant. 2n=16.

Distribution.

Moldova, southern Crimea, Caucasus.

Ecology.

On stony and debris slopes, shingles, in light forests, among shrubberies, at roadsides. Up to middle montane zone.

Economic value.

May be used as forage plant in mountain areas.
