Taxonomic position.

Family Fabaceae Lindl., genus Trigonella L.

Synonyms.

Trifolium coerulescens M.B., Trigonella azurea C.A.M.

Morphology and biology.

Annual herbaceous plant, softly woolly villous. Stems 5-30 cm tall, ascending, branched. Stipules ovate-subulate. Leaflets obovate, cuneate toward base, acutely dentate in upper part, 8-12 mm long, 4-8 mm wide. Inflorescence dense, capitate, 10-15 flowered, pedicels very short, corolla pale blue, calyx tubular, its teeth equal to tube. Pod 10-15 mm long, lanceolate-oblong, straight or slightly bent, scarcely hairy, with a short, 1-3 mm, beak. Seeds ovoid, finely tuberculate. Flowers in April, fruits in May.

Distribution.

Mountain Crimea, Caucasus, mountain Turkmenistan.

Ecology.

On exposed stony slopes, rarely in crops in lowland and foothills.

Economic value.

May be used as forage plant in mountain areas.
