Date of creation:

Scale:

1:20 000 000.

Accuracy of the map:

The map is based on 1:5 000 000 - 1:80 000 000 scale maps.

Projection:

"Albers Equal-Area Conic Projection for USSR", 9, 1001, 7, 100, 0, 44, 68, 0, 0

Basic contents:

The map is a vector file consisting of polygons and dots. The localities of the species are represented by the dots; the area of possible species distribution is represented by the polygons.

Accuracy of the qualifier:

The dots represent information on the species localities according to published sources and herbarium specimens. The polygons are based on generalized information from published sources and herbarium specimens.

Method of the map construction:

The data on the species distribution were obtained from the database of the species localities coordinates included in the Information Retrieval System "Crop Wild Relatives in Russia" (STC Informregistr 0229905883, 1999), and from published maps by Grossheim (1945), I.A.Grudzinskaya in "Ranges of trees and shrubs of the USSR"(Sokolov et al., 1977), Tolmachev (1976), Hulten, Fries (1986), Koropachinskiy, Vstovskaya (2002).
The northern border of the range is drawn after Grudzinskaya (Sokolov et al., 1977), Hulten, Fries (1986), Tolmachev (1976); the eastern one after Grudzinskaya (Sokolov et al., 1977), Hulten, Fries (1986), and according to herbarium specimens referred to in the database of the Information Retrieval System. The southern and western borders are drawn after Grudzinskaya (Sokolov et al., 1977). The borders of the Caucasian part of the range are drawn after Grudzinskaya (Sokolov et al., 1977), Hulten, Fries (1986). A number of localities cited by Grudzinskaya (Sokolov et al., 1977) and Hulten, Fries (1986) and isolated from the main range are not included in the polygon; they probably resulted from cultivated specimens escaped wild.
