Object description Download GIS-layers

Authors:

Object specialist A.Yu. Doronina, GIS-specialist I.A. Budrevskaya.

Date of creation:

10.12.2003.

Scale:

1:20 000 000.

Accuracy of map:

Map was created based on materials of maps of natural scale 1:15 000 000-1:100 000 000 and information taken from open-published literature.

Projection:

"Alber's Equal Area Conic for the USSR", 9, 1001, 7, 100, 0, 44, 68, 0, 0.

Basic contents:

Vector map. Area of species distribution is shown by polygons, and sporadic distribution by points. Zones of weediness are shown by polygons.

Accuracy of classifier:

The weed area is subdivided into two zones, one representing species distribution, and the second where weed is considered a serious pest. Points represent locations where sporadic occurrence has been reported. The zones of weediness was established based on criteria of occurrence (50% of fields where this species is found) and abundance, expressed as projective cover of this species in the field (more than 15% of the field area). This criteria was determined according to the work of Tanskii et al. (1998).

Method of map production:

Published literature was reviewed, including Atlases, monographs and papers. Occurrence data were obtained from herbarium specimens, floras, monographs and papers. The maps from the Chikov (1983) and Hulten & Fries (1986) were used as a basis for this map of Polygonum aviculare. This was supplemented by information from the reference citations listed below. The northern, southern, western and eastern boundaries of area were outlined according to the same sources and amplified according to the following sources: for the northern, southern, western and eastern boundaries by Komarov (1936) and Tzvelev (1996); for the northern and western boundaries by Poyarkova (1956); for the northern and eastern boundaries by Tolmachev (1974), Kharkevich (1989), Krasnoborov & Malishev (1992). The sporadic distribution of the species was established according to Chikov (1983), Hulten & Fries (1986) and Kharkevich (1989). The zone of weediness was determined according to Nikitin (1983), Ulyanova (1998) and Agaev (1988). Data were then compiled through scanning and geo-referencing to develop a composite vector map. The biologist, together with the GIS specialist, drew a composite weed distribution area based on compiled data.
