Mapping procedure:

The distribution area map was created using published data (Tulupnikov, 1960; State, 1994, 2004). Distribution area within the former USSR covers the Volga regions (Saratov, Samara, Volgograd, Orenburg, Rostov), Kazahstan, Western Siberia, the Northern Caucasus, Transcaucasia (Azerbaijan), and Dagestan (Samsonov, 1967; Vehov, 1978; Dorofeev & Korovina, 1979; Bujukli, 1983; Guzhin et al., 1984). The northern border of crop distribution follows the middle stream of the Danube, the steppe of the Ukraine, the upper stream of the Don, the Upper Volga (including southern regions of Nizhniy Novgorod), the Kama river regions, and the northern forest-steppe of Western Siberia to the upper stream of the Yenisei (Kuptsov, 1975; Dorofeev & Korovina, 1979). Main crops in Siberia are grown in the Omsk and Novosibirsk regions and in Altai krai, where the sum of active temperatures is above 1900°C (Savitskaja et al., 1987).
