Taxonomical position.

Family Poaceae Benth. Genera Festuca L.

Morphology and biology.

Long-term cereal. The plant is dense with stalks 30-60 cm in height. Stalks slightly rough under inflorescence. Leaves 0.3-0.7 mm in width, 10-20 cm in length, setiform, rough. Panicles 3-8 cm in length, narrow, with rough branchlets. Spikelets 5-9 mm in length, with 3-5 (6) flowers, greenish. Spikelet scales 2.5-5 mm in length; bottom floral scales 3-5 mm in length, lanceolate, rough towards the top, with awn 1.5-2.5 mm in length. Blossoms in June-July. Anemophilous. 2n=14.

Distribution.

Occurs throughout Eastern Siberia, the Far East, Mongolia, and Northeastern China.

Ecology.

Occurs on steppe stony slopes, among rocks, and among bushes.

Use and economic value.

Fodder plant.
